Users have to be familiar with, and conform to, the University safety and environmental protection policies. |

Users and their supervisors have to be responsible for the user’s safety through learning about and controlling hazards associated with their work and complying with safety and health requirements. |

Users in the laboratory must keep the work area clean, neat, and orderly. |

All materials stored in freezers or chemical cabinet must be labeled properly, otherwise they will be disposed without notice. |

Put away any materials that are not currently being used. |

Clean up benches, tables, and hoods after experiment. |

Clean up all spills immediately and use approved methods to dispose of materials that were used to absorb the spills. |

All biological waste must be disinfected, by autoclave or disinfectant, before disposal. |

All infectious waste sharps must be discarded in appropriate sharps disposal containers. |

Never dispose of any solid waste or hazardous chemicals into the sink. Follow the instructions as given by the laboratory supervisor. |

Dispose of all broken glassware in the broken glass collection box. |

Segregate your waste receptacles for solvents, glassware, paper, and other materials. |

Keep the outside of all chemical containers clean and ensure that the label is correct and easily read. |

Keep in your work area only the chemicals needed for work in progress - do not create your own chemical storage area. |

Do not store jackets, sweaters, lab coats, or other garments on benches or hang them on cylinders. |

Wear laboratory coat in the laboratory. Gloves and safety glasses should be worn where it is appropriate. |

No sandals or slippers in the lab, otherwise the user will be asked to leave the lab immediately.

Eating, drinking and smoking are strictly prohibited in the laboratory. |

Develop a good laboratory hygiene habits. |

Before starting an experiment, make sure you are familiar with all the procedures and the potential hazards of the starting materials and products. Determine the appropriate safeguards and remedies. Know the procedures for turning off equipment in an emergency, as well as emergency phone numbers. If anything unexpected occurs during your experiment, or if you are in any doubt, consult your supervisor immediately. |

UG student e.g. FYP are not allowed to work after office hour. Special request would be considered only if no alternatives could be arranged and a PG student or RA would be there at all times to supervise the work.

Never take away any equipment from the room without prior permission from the technician, otherwise your access to BELAB will be terminated permanently. |

Log book: many equipment in BELAB has its log book, users should sign it immediately when the machine is turned on, if the user was found not signing the log book, he/she cannot use that equipment for 1 week.

Lab door - Lab door should be kept closed at all time.

The last user
who leaves the lab should make sure all the doors (room 6104 & 6107) are
locked,

Report all accidents, incidents, accidental releases/spills of hazardous materials, and damage of property to their supervisors and safety officer. |

Any accident resulting in suspected or actual personal injury must be reported to the Security Control Centre by dialing 8999 and state your location and nature of the accident so that emergency response personnel can be summoned for on-site assistance. |

Users should complete a Safety Clearance Form before terminating the access to the laboratory. |
|||
v |
Access of misbehaved user will be terminated permanently after two official warnings from the BIEN Safety Officer. |
